I started my business in 2010 and I feel more than a little fortunate and lucky to be able to wake up every day and loving the job I do. 2015 is going to be a year I add another line of services to my current brand of photographing Maternity, Newborn and Children ! And considering we're starting to get into the busy season with the holidays around the corner, I realize I may not post often here for the remainder of the year ! *Smh *. Note to self : Add blogging to the task list of things to do between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am.<br />
<br />
Check out all of God's sweet grace in that precious little face ! Not to mention, the glowing radiant mom stealing cuddles and kisses after the ceremony ! The Baptism gown was specially flown in from Italy and was passed down to him from his dad. Wow !<br />

Well not so recent maybe about a month ago. Since then, he loves to toddle off to spend many a late morning looking out the thin window next to the entry door. I love how he stands on his tippy toes to peek over the plants that are outside on the porch and probably hinder his view. He looks at cars passing, at the school bus that halts right outside my driveway, at the kids going to school in the bus in the mornings, at the kids coming from school in the bus in the afternoon. I've often wondered if he ever thinks his sister might be amongst the kids that get on / off the bus ? (We actually drive to school to get her.) I know he misses her terribly while she's away at school. His eyes light up when she comes home and he literally drags her hand and takes her into the toy room to play with him.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, I've entitled this image, Awaiting Spring. Spring is what my daughter's name literally translates to in my native tongue.<br />

And how his own children ran about barefoot ? My kids are sort of in the same boat. Before you run out and buy them shoes for Christmas though, hear me out. They do have shoes. LOTS of shoes! Atleast my 6yo does (she has more than I do atleast). My 1yo isn't walking yet and the pediatrician says, socked feet are best for learning balance. So he has just one pair that we put on, on his birthday. He didn't like them one bit ! So, if you see them running around sans shoes, rest assured its for a very good reason, and dearth of shoes has nothing to do with it. Plus, I'm not a cobbler.<br />
<br />
So, my analogy of shoes actually, applies to photography. I was done with client shoots and delivering edited sessions 2 weeks ago. And then I realized I hadn't ordered Christmas cards for our family and friends! Not to mention, we had NO pictures that we could use on them ! Well, nothing "christmasy" atleast unless you count the iphone pictures taken by Mr Miraz Light At Work Photography.<br />
<br />
So I finally got my act together and did a mini session. These were shot on a cold rainy day so they were taken indoors. It would have been nice to have done them outdoors but see above for the case of the cobbler's kids. And I did want my kids to have pictures done this year. Something's better than nothing right ? And I made it a point to be in front of the lens for a change. I do want my kids to have pictures of me to look back upon.<br />
Here are a few of my favorites.<br />
<br />
She had received this outfit earlier this year from a grandparent. While its two sizes too big, she thought it was festive enough for pictures. Plus tts rare that she likes anything pink so I shot away ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UMGz4W0oSOM/UriJ0xZwMOI/AAAAAAAAAeA/Qy5W3JhSGJY/s1600/2013-12-16_26717_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UMGz4W0oSOM/UriJ0xZwMOI/AAAAAAAAAeA/Qy5W3JhSGJY/s640/2013-12-16_26717_wm.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We have nicknamed my little guy The Duracell bunny. He's always on the go ! His favorite pose to sit in, is this. And he sat that way for only 6-7 seconds.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mNksSS2sMn4/UriJ0yk9VjI/AAAAAAAAAeE/cS5e2w-Xs-Y/s1600/2013-12-16_26737_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mNksSS2sMn4/UriJ0yk9VjI/AAAAAAAAAeE/cS5e2w-Xs-Y/s640/2013-12-16_26737_wm.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
Babies and toddlers really don't need any toys. He's always content playing with my pots and pans and spoons.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EBG9mTY40bI/UriJ095NNdI/AAAAAAAAAd8/ILDWL1mbFSg/s1600/2013-12-16_26755_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EBG9mTY40bI/UriJ095NNdI/AAAAAAAAAd8/ILDWL1mbFSg/s640/2013-12-16_26755_wm.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
I love this picture (yes thats me!) because I have a 2013 picture of me with my sweet little girl ! Memories for me to pass on to her !<br />

I didn't get to shoot her holiday session last year because I had a newborn babe (little A) of my own and had taken a break to spend some quality snuggle time with him. So this year when I saw her, I was pleasantly surprised to see she was all grown up - even taller than me (yeah yeah I'm not tall only 5' 6") ! Here are a few of my favorite images from the session. I think the one I liked the most was where she gets kisses from Jack. Ever since sweet little C was a baby. His sister was around 3 and shy and demure. She's no longer reserved or quiet around me ! It might have something to do with the fact that she's also my little girl's best friend.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm thankful they were understanding and waited a half hour while I had to ask hubby to bring me the camera batteries that I forgot in the charger at home. Note to self : Must replace the backup batteries that died. Soon !</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Some of my personal favorites from the session are below.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This was the very first image I took. Could not believe both the kiddos looked straight at the camera in the first shot !</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VuTpIlD7SbA/Uo69e2uGKjI/AAAAAAAAAbw/jcIIZAtujwc/s1600/2013-11-01_26414_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VuTpIlD7SbA/Uo69e2uGKjI/AAAAAAAAAbw/jcIIZAtujwc/s640/2013-11-01_26414_wm.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_cncYLx83lI/Uo69ehm_JYI/AAAAAAAAAbo/iq-f-QEzijg/s1600/2013-11-01_26458_bw_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_cncYLx83lI/Uo69ehm_JYI/AAAAAAAAAbo/iq-f-QEzijg/s640/2013-11-01_26458_bw_wm.jpg" width="424" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love this image of the little man with his mum. I had one of them together when he was a baby that was my favorite till date but this may possibly trump that one.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GFXgNzkUHmg/Uo69fcqAaPI/AAAAAAAAAb4/wXV_A18WKQw/s1600/2013-11-01_26475_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GFXgNzkUHmg/Uo69fcqAaPI/AAAAAAAAAb4/wXV_A18WKQw/s640/2013-11-01_26475_wm.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To get her to smile here, all I had to do was ask her what she'd do if my little girl appeared at the shoot by magic. She gave me this coy look and said "We'd start playing" !</div>

The session happened waaaaayyyyy back in September. Talk about the post being delayed ! But just the blog post. The pictures were shared way long ago with the client so I know they LOVED the pictures and that makes me happy !<br />
<br />
Here are a few of my favorites.<br />
<br />
Doesn't she have the most innocent of eyes ?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZrUTKWXafKU/Uo65vcSym5I/AAAAAAAAAbU/j9sH2I12AqI/s1600/2013-09-17-25590_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZrUTKWXafKU/Uo65vcSym5I/AAAAAAAAAbU/j9sH2I12AqI/s320/2013-09-17-25590_wm.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This little munchkin gave me a run around. He was crawling all over the place. And he was quick. Really really quick !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CCBctP4QCIE/Uo65vItQgZI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/DLN_EHIofbU/s1600/2013-09-17-25612_bw_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CCBctP4QCIE/Uo65vItQgZI/AAAAAAAAAbQ/DLN_EHIofbU/s320/2013-09-17-25612_bw_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here's my absolute favorite. She started off very reserved as you can tell from the first picture. By the end of the session, she was all a different little personality ! She was seeing some kayakers in the lake below the bridge and then turned around to tell me about them.<br />
<br />

One of the most gorgeous times of the year when nature puts on its special clothes of reds, yellows and orange so get your pictures taken outdoors. This year I'm including a 11x14 Print, something I don't do very often so its a great time to take advantage of this offer !<br />

Here are some of my session favorites.<br />
<br />
He looked SO tiny placed on this team flag and I had to get up on a step ladder to get this shot. But it was well worth it !<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wIjO5oDTLJY/UhQeH_YoceI/AAAAAAAAAaM/RKyx6TyeO1E/s1600/2013-07-30-25307_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wIjO5oDTLJY/UhQeH_YoceI/AAAAAAAAAaM/RKyx6TyeO1E/s640/2013-07-30-25307_wm.jpg" width="489" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my version of "The Thinker". He definitely is deep in thought.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LqihIZk9rMQ/UhQeH8MN2iI/AAAAAAAAAaI/POaiTfsXn-U/s1600/2013-07-30-25319_bw_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LqihIZk9rMQ/UhQeH8MN2iI/AAAAAAAAAaI/POaiTfsXn-U/s640/2013-07-30-25319_bw_wm.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Have I mentioned I love capturing all the details of soft squishy newborns on camera ? Probably in every newborn post right ? I captured it right on time too because immediately after this shot, he peed on mom. I still have to complete a newborn shoot where the mom, or dad, or even me, haven't been peed / pooped on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-53lI72h6szI/UhQeH0wMpzI/AAAAAAAAAaE/_7bGK_Cq6dw/s1600/2013-07-30-25337_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-53lI72h6szI/UhQeH0wMpzI/AAAAAAAAAaE/_7bGK_Cq6dw/s640/2013-07-30-25337_wm.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This was amongst the last few pictures I took in the almost 4 hour shoot. He wasn't a happy camper what with me trying to position him every time he fell asleep. After trying several places, I decided to put him on mom. And thats where I got this pose. Soundly asleep. Finally !<br />

Having had a cesarean when he was born, I wasn't able to shoot his newborn pictures - missed that 10 day window of opportunity. When I was finally able to bend and squat he was an alert one month old who didn't quite want to be swaddled or bundled or squished. Since then, he hasn't changed much. He did not want to co-operate for me during this shoot either. <strike>I might</strike> I shall enlist the help of his older sister going forward. He's usually in a trance looking at her when she's around and does pretty much anything she wants him to do.<br />
<br />
Here are a few of my favorites from his shoot.<br />
<br />
I call this the Charlie pose. Baby Charlie was my first baby I ever shot and boy did he rock his shoot ! You can see his pose <a href="http://www.lightatwork.biz/YourGallery/Baby-C-3-Months/16057702_vPsBmH#!i=1205101139&k=9Drv6Lb&lb=1&s=A" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
My little guy, LOVES sleeping on his tummy. Being worried about SIDs, I've spent countless nights awake making sure his nose isn't obstructed and making sure he can breathe while on his belly. I initially tried flipping him back to his back but that was futile. He'd either flip right back to his tummy or he'd wake up crying and then it would take an hour to make him go back to sleep. Bottom line he loves sleeping on his tummy. Not so the case when he's awake. I can count the number of times he's had waking "tummy time" on the fingers of one hand these last 3 months. God forbid I lay him on his belly - it becomes a free for all crying fest within 30 seconds. So, this is the closest I got to it right before the howling started.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fsQxtiXcKJ8/UToJvORTW1I/AAAAAAAAAZE/sZhWxCBea8I/s1600/2013-03-06-24510_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fsQxtiXcKJ8/UToJvORTW1I/AAAAAAAAAZE/sZhWxCBea8I/s640/2013-03-06-24510_wm.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After he was flipped over, he wasn't quite amused when his mommy kept disappearing behind a big black box as you can see below. See that lip lifted there ? Thats the smirk.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sptBNKOu7EI/UToPnqjrLNI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/4PyKQz18qNI/s1600/2013-03-06-24516_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sptBNKOu7EI/UToPnqjrLNI/AAAAAAAAAZQ/4PyKQz18qNI/s640/2013-03-06-24516_wm.jpg" width="420" /></a></div>
<br />
I couldn't help sharing this one. When he was a newborn, I'd wanted a picture of his fingers curled around my finger. I captured that picture. Except it was his dad's finger. When it was my turn to be on the "other" side of the camera, he did not co-operate. So I never ended up getting any pictures with him. Yesterday however, when I was re-positioning him, he looked at me and then grabbed by finger. Made me realize when opportunity comes knocking, I should run to the door and answer it. It was a feat trying to have him hold on, and shoot with only one hand. Gosh that 7000 is one heavy cam ! I have to say despite the fact that his fingers aren't tack sharp, I'll treasure this picture for ever !<br />

I have not uploaded a session here in AGES !! To rectify that, here are some sneak peeks from one of my recent fall sessions. The weather was perfect as you can tell by the outfits. It was surprisingly nice and warm ! I love every single picture from this session, but these are a few of my absolute favorites. Enjoy !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t12g48FaIPM/UJHmBj50CKI/AAAAAAAAAYk/QCsKdM0xvlw/s1600/Blog1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="492" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t12g48FaIPM/UJHmBj50CKI/AAAAAAAAAYk/QCsKdM0xvlw/s640/Blog1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I've said time and time again, I try not to say "Cheese" or "smile" during my session and try to get genuine expressions from my clients. This session was no exceptions. These kiddos were easy to talk to and were perfect little models for me ! Check out sweet K's expression as she's on her belly with her mommy and bro !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can find the rest of the session<a href="http://www.lightatwork.biz/YourGallery/BallouFall2012/26236880_bhMjPK#!i=2183779439&k=fGwfsHb" target="_blank"> here</a></div>

<br />
If your little (or not so little) one is starting that special grade - be it pre-K, K, 1st Grade, or even their senior year (or even the other grades - after all each year is special !!) , don't miss the opportunity to get their back to school pictures.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RkQM77oFM9w/UBFfHxf2Z2I/AAAAAAAAAYM/uMBqBJjXsx8/s1600/blog_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-RkQM77oFM9w/UBFfHxf2Z2I/AAAAAAAAAYM/uMBqBJjXsx8/s320/blog_2.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
My little one is "technically" starting Kindergarten. I mentioned to her that her school doesn't have the traditional grade system. Nonetheless she wanted her back to school pictures. She pretended her "I ♥ NY" bag is her backpack (she doesn't need a backpack in school). The session turned out super duper fun and I'm sure it will be a very special memory for us to look back on as the years go by !! <br />
<br />

<br />
<i>*Book your session by August 3rd and you get $10 off the session price !</i> Doesn't get any better than that !!<br />
<br />
<i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: x-small;">* Note - the session does not need to take place by August 3rd. Just needs to be booked and paid by then.</span></i>Mirazhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00335514428628103303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725932662576635811.post-71665012345639010332012-07-24T19:58:00.000-04:002012-07-24T19:58:57.563-04:00Capturing the essence | Favorites from Baby B's sessionWhen I do newborn portraits, I try to capture the essence of being all little and new to the world. Amongst other things, its the little fingers,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0FnZMmLGppY/UA80AmKDyfI/AAAAAAAAAXg/Y42H9-wQiV0/s1600/2012-07-10_23307_bw_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0FnZMmLGppY/UA80AmKDyfI/AAAAAAAAAXg/Y42H9-wQiV0/s320/2012-07-10_23307_bw_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
cute little piggies,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EoG1M4xIEzc/UA80KFOXd9I/AAAAAAAAAXo/FbHe9BCP1n8/s1600/2012-07-10_23309_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EoG1M4xIEzc/UA80KFOXd9I/AAAAAAAAAXo/FbHe9BCP1n8/s320/2012-07-10_23309_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
the head full of hair !!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1w_awG_tNHw/UA80e-0w6CI/AAAAAAAAAXw/_4GIUfARr7g/s1600/2012-07-10_23310_bw_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1w_awG_tNHw/UA80e-0w6CI/AAAAAAAAAXw/_4GIUfARr7g/s320/2012-07-10_23310_bw_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0FnZMmLGppY/UA80AmKDyfI/AAAAAAAAAXg/Y42H9-wQiV0/s1600/2012-07-10_23307_bw_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0FnZMmLGppY/UA80AmKDyfI/AAAAAAAAAXg/Y42H9-wQiV0/s320/2012-07-10_23307_bw_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If I'm lucky I get to capture sweet little yawns<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1BInZyT-RcA/UA80pr43cDI/AAAAAAAAAX4/-FtSA4klYVM/s1600/2012-07-10_23319_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1BInZyT-RcA/UA80pr43cDI/AAAAAAAAAX4/-FtSA4klYVM/s320/2012-07-10_23319_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And my absolute favorite from the session - this little peekaboo with one eye open and the other shut !<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-me4D1SMxePA/UA80_FHeGfI/AAAAAAAAAYA/aSB277W674E/s1600/2012-07-10_23293_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-me4D1SMxePA/UA80_FHeGfI/AAAAAAAAAYA/aSB277W674E/s320/2012-07-10_23293_wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And every time I come away from a newborn session, it makes me wish I had taken more pictures when my little munchkin was a baby. I do make up for their lack now by taking a few styled sessions every few months so I have a ton of printed portraits !! Digital pictures just don't make the cut for me !Mirazhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00335514428628103303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725932662576635811.post-82943851684672223652012-04-17T15:55:00.001-04:002012-04-17T15:55:47.173-04:00Mommy and Me PortraitsThere is a saying by Washington Irving that says <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;"><b>“A mother is the truest friend we have.” </b></span>I couldn't agree more !<br />

<br />
I really loved shooting this session. Little Miss J was a talker. She was hesitant at first for a couple of pictures and I had to guide her with posing as you can see here<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.lightatwork.biz/YourGallery/LuckiEasterPortraits/22071190_BDWSS4" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="http://www.lightatwork.biz/YourGallery/LuckiEasterPortraits/i-4VcN4WK/0/S/2012-03-1122563-S.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
However, she warmed up very quickly and I didn't have to do much after that ! She was all laughter and giggles throughout the session.<br />

For FREE !I not-so-recently came across a really nifty app to meter light. We know that the display on our dslr lies every single time to us when we're chimping. Unless we're actually looking at the histogram on the display and not the picture. How does it lie? Its a combination of our brain and our eyes. When we look at a scene, our eyes are programmed to overcompensate. The same applies to when we are looking at an image in the camera's display. To top that, the way our brain is wired, since "we've" taken the picture, it obviously tells us there's nothing wrong with it. So unless we check the histogram on the camera display we're being fooled. Come to the rescue - light meters ! A top end one with all the bells and whistles sells anywhere between $250 and $400. So, if you have that much to spend, by all means go ahead and invest in it. However, if you are trying to save money for other gear (think fast lenses) then here's a great option thats FREE. Does it work in all possible scenarios? No it has its limitations. But it works most of the time. Oh and did I say its free? So what is it? Its an iPhone App called <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pocket-light-meter/id381698089?mt=8" target="_blank">Pocket Light Meter</a>.<br />
<br />
Here's an example of how to use it and what it does. Forgive the lack of a better subject. Then again, the subject was delicious enough that I had to eat it all up leaving only crumbs.<br />
<br />
Note that since I shoot outdoors and indoors, I have an approximate idea of what ISO I need. But here's my thought process (I do something similar for each session. Since this was shot indoors, I knew I had to bump up my ISO past its minimum of 100. I usually like the ISO to be 400 inside my home on bright sunny days since I have tall windows with lots of non-direct sunlight . It might very well be different in your home depending on the amount of light outside and the amount and direction of light coming in to your setting. Next, at the back of my mind, since I was shooting with a 50mm so I knew I did not want my speed to drop below a 100 at any cost. I also like to shoot open and from my experience I've learned that my 50mm's sweet spot is f2.8. Yes I lose out on a few stops of light but my image is sharper at f2.8 than at f1.8. So here's the Pocket Light Meter app screen on my phone.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yUWMMUkmqnI/T2C7v90tc2I/AAAAAAAAAW4/SSOKh6xP9GQ/s1600/2012-03-14_22705_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yUWMMUkmqnI/T2C7v90tc2I/AAAAAAAAAW4/SSOKh6xP9GQ/s400/2012-03-14_22705_wm.jpg" width="265" /></a></div><br />
Yes I was aiming at the appetizer plate. And the crumbs. Lets not get into what the crumbs were left behind from. I put in the ISO of 400 and the aperture of 2.8. The app showed me the "Time" which is the shutter speed. As you can see its over 1/100. So I pick up my camera and take this picture after dialing in these settings. This is the raw original SOOC.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HjpWCyZ0HXE/T2C8zQH90zI/AAAAAAAAAXA/ktPFnqZmqSY/s1600/2012-03-14_22704_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HjpWCyZ0HXE/T2C8zQH90zI/AAAAAAAAAXA/ktPFnqZmqSY/s640/2012-03-14_22704_wm.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
Here's the exif data<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MUOGkUcEBDQ/T2C9GFNyigI/AAAAAAAAAXI/sN2Um4ZaIZI/s1600/Picture+8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MUOGkUcEBDQ/T2C9GFNyigI/AAAAAAAAAXI/sN2Um4ZaIZI/s320/Picture+8.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />
And here is the histogram.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-If4sf4X4aCQ/T2C9Jes-VGI/AAAAAAAAAXQ/CQQ0wIxwktU/s1600/Picture+10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-If4sf4X4aCQ/T2C9Jes-VGI/AAAAAAAAAXQ/CQQ0wIxwktU/s1600/Picture+10.png" /></a></div><br />
The clipping on the histogram corresponds to the shadow in the bottom right corner but overall, as you can see, it is quite evenly distributed. If I would have increased the ISO to 500, I would have parts of the plate blown out. However, with the focus of my image being the plate, I was content with my shadows being clipped than the plate being blown out.<br />
<br />
If you haven't downloaded this app yet, go get it NOW !<br />
<br />
XOXO<br />

Celebrate the luck of the Irish with your little ones with these cute treats and fun crafts !<br />
<br />
<br />
Cupcakes are always a hit with my own little one as well as her friends. And if you have some visiting leprechauns, this rainbow cupcake might just have them lead you to their pot of gold !<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/taste-a-rainbow-cupcakes-842128/" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://familyfun.go.com/assets/cms/recipes/taste-a-rainbow-cupcakes-photo-420-FF0310TOTMA01.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
If you have tiny pasta or couscous lying around (which I always have on hand in the pantry ) and if you have a girl that likes jewelry, then this Shamrock pin is really cute craft to make. Note to self - find a shamrock cookie cutter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.crafts-for-all-seasons.com/shamrock-pasta-craft.html" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://www.crafts-for-all-seasons.com/images/136.pasta-shamrock-craft-03.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Did you know Leprechauns are Irish elves? Urban legends and folklore say also say they were cobblers and had excellent shoe making skills. What better way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone than to trap a leprechaun and have him make you a new pair of shoes ? Here's a <a href="http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/leprechauns/a/030501a.htm" target="_blank">link</a> to some cute leprechaun traps.<br />
<br />
I know I'll be busy this weekend making leprechaun traps and treats. I'll hopefully be able to post pictures before the treats get devoured.<br />
<br />
Happy St Patrick's Day!<br />
<br />
XOXO<br />

I was very fortunate to catch this Super Hero face. I'm told it scares away the bad guys. Now who wouldn't want to be a damsel in distress if there's a super hero this cute who's going to come to the rescue ?<br />
<br />
The Before & After will enable you to see the difference between getting portraits at your favorite neighborhood portrait chain and a custom portrait with a professional.<br />
<br />
This picture was taken indoors with very flat lighting. There was a huge chandelier above his head which worked for me as a hair light giving the lovely shine to his hair. In post processing, I brightened his face some to give it a soft glow. I then removed a red spot that looked like a bug bite on his right cheek and finally finished it off by removing the white stain from the vest and the little thread hanging from near the button. I think its the small details that go into creating a good picture.<br />
And yes I used a nekked powered down flash to directly illuminate him. I could have thought of bouncing the flash across a wall and positioning him better and a million different other things but guess what? I would have MISSED THIS SHOT because it was completely. impromptu.<br />

I was lucky to be shooting Miss M in her grandma's beautiful home. It was totally awesome and chic as you will see from some of my favorite peeks below ..<br />

The lemons however, before being consumed, led to the capture of these -<br />
<br />
Id like to print one of these up big and frame it. Probably for my hubby's office. However, I'm torn between the two edits.<br />
<br />
The first, done using my own textures and actions<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G9y06dr_ikA/TwsnkK9rA4I/AAAAAAAAAUI/mbQa97Oemzo/s1600/2012-01-06_21829_tex_dej_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-G9y06dr_ikA/TwsnkK9rA4I/AAAAAAAAAUI/mbQa97Oemzo/s1600/2012-01-06_21829_tex_dej_wm.jpg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
And the other, using <a href="http://ilafrancephotography.com/blog/" target="_blank">Isabelle Lafrance's</a> Soulful Indulge action along with my textures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fb6GNMjf2KY/TwsnkgBw1RI/AAAAAAAAAUQ/lCHswWKMYe0/s1600/2012-01-06_21829_textured_soulful_indulge_wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fb6GNMjf2KY/TwsnkgBw1RI/AAAAAAAAAUQ/lCHswWKMYe0/s1600/2012-01-06_21829_textured_soulful_indulge_wm.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I'm tending towards one but was curious to see what the general opinion is .....Mirazhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00335514428628103303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725932662576635811.post-54188295530526911952011-12-09T12:35:00.000-05:002011-12-09T12:35:25.425-05:00How to create a banner/ bunting for less than $5 | Atlanta, Roswell, Canton, Alpharetta GA Newborn and Children's photographerEveryone these days uses a banner or bunting as a photo prop in a shoot. However, depending on the banner, it could cost anywhere from $20 to $40 including shipping. I came across a neat idea of how to make my own banner and thought I'd share it with you.<br />
<br />
What you will need :<br />
- Scrapbooking paper - 6-7 sheets depending on how many flags you need in the banner<br />
- Scissors (if you have one with scalloped edges, even better!)<br />
- Hot glue<br />
- Ribbon about 5 to 5 1/2 feet in length.<br />
<br />
Now to make the banner<br />
I bought my scrapbook sheets at my local Hobby Lobby. The original price was $0.40 (I think) per sheet. However, I bought it at 50% off. Lucky me ! I've got a ton of craft stuff always lying around so I used an existing piece of ribbon that was 5 1/2 feet long. So I really didn't have to go out and buy ribbon. However, you could easily get a 5 feet ribbon for less than $3 at the store.<br />
<br />
Take your scrapbook paper and draw a triangle on it. I like to make mine an isosceles triangle. ie have two sides the same length. Like so<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rZjEh_uz8Yw/TuJD6B8ANgI/AAAAAAAAATw/rpG7OkC1c-0/s1600/Banner_Step1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rZjEh_uz8Yw/TuJD6B8ANgI/AAAAAAAAATw/rpG7OkC1c-0/s1600/Banner_Step1.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I admit I forgot to take a picture before I cut out the triangle, but I'm sure you get the idea.<br />
<br />
The next step would be to cut the triangle out. I used a pair of scissors with scalloped edges to make the banner look nicer but a straight edged scissor will work just fine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_B-H4rIgfZM/TuJEWWz1M_I/AAAAAAAAAT4/RMdIZa7wESs/s1600/Banner_step2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_B-H4rIgfZM/TuJEWWz1M_I/AAAAAAAAAT4/RMdIZa7wESs/s1600/Banner_step2.jpg" /></a></div><br />
If you notice, only the sides of my isosceles triangle have the scalloped edges and not the base. The reason for that is, the base is not going to matter once you attach these to your ribbon.<br />
<br />
Repeat the step above where you cut a triangle, this time with a different scrapbook paper. It helps to get papers with matching shades of atleast one of the colors but if not, try to co-ordinate it by having a similar pattern eg circles or stripes. I used the following paper<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DRie4qXUplw/TuJFibwWWdI/AAAAAAAAAUA/Lp4IDNa7JU8/s1600/securedownload.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DRie4qXUplw/TuJFibwWWdI/AAAAAAAAAUA/Lp4IDNa7JU8/s1600/securedownload.jpeg" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Finally hotglue each of these triangles onto your ribbon. Make sure that you place them alternating so that no two triangles next to each other are the same. And ta-da ! You have a banner for less than $5 !!<br />
<br />
Here's the finished product in use ...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pFzlhx0LK1M/TssLj8_HhvI/AAAAAAAAATI/yg3Bhv90GCE/s1600/One+Year.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pFzlhx0LK1M/TssLj8_HhvI/AAAAAAAAATI/yg3Bhv90GCE/s1600/One+Year.jpg" /></a></div>Mirazhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00335514428628103303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-725932662576635811.post-23860394126751562932011-12-01T12:36:00.000-05:002011-12-01T12:36:53.881-05:00Before & After Using only levels and curves | Roswell, Alpharetta, Canton, Woodstock Newborn and child PhotographerHere's a B & A from a recent session. The picture was edited in Photoshop using only Levels and Curves. I added some sharpening to the eyes at the end. The creamy skintone, like this sweet little girl has in real life was achieved simply with raising the RGB curve and adjusting the red values in the levels screen.<br />
<br />
I have consciously been trying to shoot my pictures one stop overexposed. A slightly overexposed image, I've learnt over the course of the last 3 years, holds more data per pixel. Note that I speak of "slightly" overexposed. Not full blown highlights.<br />
<br />
If you haven't tried using curves and levels yet, you should !<br />
