Oh my poor neglected blog ... tts been 4 months since I posted a session on here !! And considering we're starting to get into the busy season with the holidays around the corner, I realize I may not post often here for the remainder of the year ! *Smh *. Note to self : Add blogging to the task list of things to do between 9:00 pm and 6:00 am.
Check out all of God's sweet grace in that precious little face ! Not to mention, the glowing radiant mom stealing cuddles and kisses after the ceremony ! The Baptism gown was specially flown in from Italy and was passed down to him from his dad. Wow !

Pickard Family | Marietta Family Portrait Session
This was the first time I had the opportunity of taking pictures of this sweet family. They bid on a gift voucher (and won !!) I had donated to my little girl's school for their scholarship auction.
Below are a few of my favorite sneak peaks from the session. You can find the complete gallery here

Metering Light. For FREE !
I not-so-recently came across a really nifty app to meter light. We know that the display on our dslr lies every single time to us when we're chimping. Unless we're actually looking at the histogram on the display and not the picture. How does it lie? Its a combination of our brain and our eyes. When we look at a scene, our eyes are programmed to overcompensate. The same applies to when we are looking at an image in the camera's display. To top that, the way our brain is wired, since "we've" taken the picture, it obviously tells us there's nothing wrong with it. So unless we check the histogram on the camera display we're being fooled. Come to the rescue - light meters ! A top end one with all the bells and whistles sells anywhere between $250 and $400. So, if you have that much to spend, by all means go ahead and invest in it. However, if you are trying to save money for other gear (think fast lenses) then here's a great option thats FREE. Does it work in all possible scenarios? No it has its limitations. But it works most of the time. Oh and did I say its free? So what is it? Its an iPhone App called Pocket Light Meter.
Here's an example of how to use it and what it does. Forgive the lack of a better subject. Then again, the subject was delicious enough that I had to eat it all up leaving only crumbs.
Note that since I shoot outdoors and indoors, I have an approximate idea of what ISO I need. But here's my thought process (I do something similar for each session. Since this was shot indoors, I knew I had to bump up my ISO past its minimum of 100. I usually like the ISO to be 400 inside my home on bright sunny days since I have tall windows with lots of non-direct sunlight . It might very well be different in your home depending on the amount of light outside and the amount and direction of light coming in to your setting. Next, at the back of my mind, since I was shooting with a 50mm so I knew I did not want my speed to drop below a 100 at any cost. I also like to shoot open and from my experience I've learned that my 50mm's sweet spot is f2.8. Yes I lose out on a few stops of light but my image is sharper at f2.8 than at f1.8. So here's the Pocket Light Meter app screen on my phone.
Yes I was aiming at the appetizer plate. And the crumbs. Lets not get into what the crumbs were left behind from. I put in the ISO of 400 and the aperture of 2.8. The app showed me the "Time" which is the shutter speed. As you can see its over 1/100. So I pick up my camera and take this picture after dialing in these settings. This is the raw original SOOC.
Here's the exif data
And here is the histogram.
The clipping on the histogram corresponds to the shadow in the bottom right corner but overall, as you can see, it is quite evenly distributed. If I would have increased the ISO to 500, I would have parts of the plate blown out. However, with the focus of my image being the plate, I was content with my shadows being clipped than the plate being blown out.
If you haven't downloaded this app yet, go get it NOW !

Before & After peek | North Metro Atlanta Newborn, Children, Family and Senior Photographer
I thought I'd share one of my favorite pictures from my last session of 2011. I was very fortunate to catch this Super Hero face. I'm told it scares away the bad guys. Now who wouldn't want to be a damsel in distress if there's a super hero this cute who's going to come to the rescue ?
The Before & After will enable you to see the difference between getting portraits at your favorite neighborhood portrait chain and a custom portrait with a professional.
This picture was taken indoors with very flat lighting. There was a huge chandelier above his head which worked for me as a hair light giving the lovely shine to his hair. In post processing, I brightened his face some to give it a soft glow. I then removed a red spot that looked like a bug bite on his right cheek and finally finished it off by removing the white stain from the vest and the little thread hanging from near the button. I think its the small details that go into creating a good picture.
And yes I used a nekked powered down flash to directly illuminate him. I could have thought of bouncing the flash across a wall and positioning him better and a million different other things but guess what? I would have MISSED THIS SHOT because it was completely. impromptu.

Christmas Session : M's Session peeks | North Metro Atlanta Newborn, Babies and Children Photographer
With not being able to do much else today, I finally had the time to blog this session from the holidays last year ! The pictures were already delivered to the client but I got tied up with other things and they never made it to the bloggie ....
I was lucky to be shooting Miss M in her grandma's beautiful home. It was totally awesome and chic as you will see from some of my favorite peeks below ..
And in case you were wondering what my typical before and after looks here's a sample -
Yes that is my OLD camera case in the background. I now carry a new trendy backpack from Think Tank Pro. The rest of this gallery can be viewed on my website

My Fairytale Shoot | Atlanta, Alpharetta, Woodstock, Marietta, Roswell, Canton Children's Photographer
I was sitting around one day in this quaint quiet little spot in the woods pondering on the nuance of life and other petty (or not!) matters. The only inhabitants around were little squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits. Then, I heard a soft little crunch. Like something was walking amongst the leaves. What did I find? A small little fairy gently treading around. She had her back to me at first and didn't see me. Boy was I lucky I had my camera on me !
The minute she heard the shutter click, she turned around and caught me. And then gave me the cutest of smiles !
In her hand she held this miraculous invention from Pixie Land. Supposedly, it makes people of all ages happy. She went on to show me how its to be used
She then followed me home and up the stairs ...
She was trying to fly but for some reason her wings weren't levitating her. Maybe because she'd temporarily made her wings disappear ? (FYI - Little Fairies have the cuteest bellybutton...)
She followed me into my studio and didn't know quite what to do.
The rest of her gallery can be found and viewed here.

Belly To Baby | Baby C 9 Months | North Metro Atlanta Newborn, Baby and Children's Photographer
I have had the privilege of photographing this not-so-little-anymore cute bundle since the time he was in his gorgeous Mama's belly. He is now 9 months old. How time flies !! I love photographing him, not only because he and his mama were my very first clients last year, but also because he's just so darn adorable ! My little girl dotes on him so much that if she sees me running edits on his pictures, she plants herself right next to me for the entire time, reaffirming every minute or two - "Mommy isn't baby C so cute?". When she meets him in person, she doesn't lose a single opportunity to play with him, as long as his older sister who's her best friend will allow. Other times, she won't really care with the gallery I am editing.
I do offer a belly to baby series capturing each important milestone from maternity pictures to baby's first birthday. Just ask me for details !
In the meanwhile, here are some pictures. Hope you're as happy viewing them as I was capturing them!
